About the Journal

Everything is published under a Creative Commons Attribution license (CC BY). That means your work is free to read, reuse, cite, and build upon, without permission barriers or subscription fees. Knowledge is meant to circulate.
All submissions go through double-blind peer review with at least two expert referees. We aim to be rigorous without being bureaucratic. Reviews focus on methodological soundness, clarity, and contribution to the field. Most decisions are made within 6–8 weeks, depending on reviewer availability.
Authors retain full copyright. Articles are published under a CC BY license, ensuring both protection and wide usability of your work.
We do not charge to submit. If your article is accepted, a modest APC supports DOI assignment, indexing, and long-term open hosting. We offer fee waivers for authors with limited institutional support.
All published articles receive DOIs and are indexed via the SERN platform and its partner databases. Our goal is to ensure your work is easily discoverable, citable, and archived in all the right places.
The journal is supported by SERN, which provides the infrastructure for peer review, publication, and archiving. We do not accept external sponsorships or advertisements. No brand influence. Just clean science.
Author and reviewer data is kept confidential and used strictly for publication purposes. We do not sell, mine, or share personal information.
Journal of Materials Science is built for researchers who care about the building blocks of innovation. We aim to bridge the gap between laboratory discovery and real-world application, from atomic-scale interactions to macro-scale performance. Whether you work in industry or academia, whether your material is natural, engineered, or imagined, we want your best work here.
